Montessori's contributions to the teacher
At the New School Institute (INE), we welcome teachers from all over the island. We call ourselves the Teacher's House, as every summer and throughout the year, we welcome teachers with great enthusiasm, excitement, and commitment to their training as Montessori guides.
We say training, because more than a transfer of knowledge about an educational methodology is a lifestyle, it is to see the child, the young person, education and see themselves as educators and agents of social and educational change.
We have been accompanying and guiding them in this process of training or transformation, as they describe it, since 2008.
“This summer, Casa de Niños 2025, we had such a beautiful experience. It began a personal transformation in each of us, and that led to a professional transformation. And that's when I realized what the transformation I wanted was,” said one of the adult apprentices in our summer courses.
The word transformation is the action and effect of transforming, which is to alter, change, evolve, reform.
And that's precisely what the Montessori guide training process does. It gives you a new way of approaching children and young people, of teaching them, of seeing them—it's a new opportunity to guide them.
There are manyMontessori's contributions to the teacher. Some of these include the environment prepared for the students who will be receiving it, a space with the necessary tools for the stage of development they are in, an environment with very specific materials for each of the subjects and topics to be discussed.
This method provides educators with tools to get to know their students more deeply, establishing a good relationship between teacher, student and family, since they spend three years with the students in the same environment or classroom. This multi-age environment is a characteristic of this method.
It also equips him with a deep understanding of the stage of development in which their children are students, allowing them to understand, and thus provide them with a quality education, academically and as a human being.
“As a Montessori guide, I have noticed that students develop greater confidence, independence, and a love for learning,” Mar shared with us.into Isabel, a guide and member of our faculty at the Children's House level, about these contributions of Montessori to students.
Likewise, Maria was able to identify that as a professional, being a Montessori guide has allowed her to be more reflective and patient. It's not just about knowing the methodology, but also the philosophy, as an educator's lifestyle which will allow the complete training of the child and young person.
And we say complete because if there's one thing that distinguishes Montessori education, it's that it works not only on the academic area, but also on the mind and soul, and for that, training plays an important role.
As part of this training or interest in learning more about this methodology and its contributions to teaching, children, youth, families and society, we extend the invitation to participate in the FirstMontessori Education Conference in Puerto Rico on November 7 and 8.
