INE celebrates peace
Students from Luis Muñoz Rivera school celebrated the International Day of Peace in 2023 together with INE Volunteer Program, and they are joining again this year.
If you have ever wondered how a culture of peace is fostered in Montessori pedagogy, you have come to the right place to get an answer.
If there is one thing we are clear about, it is that peace is not only necessary in social coexistence, but it is also achievable. In the Montessori curriculum, peace education is a central element that is integrated into daily activities in a prepared environment. Some of the ways in which peace is promoted in a Montessori environment are the following:
There is a prepared environment designed to foster respect, independence and collaboration among children and young people. This orderly space, filled with materials that promote exploration and independent learning, helps them feel safe and secure.
The importance of recognizing and expressing emotions in a healthy way is taught. Through group and circle activities, students learn to listen to and respect others, and therefore, dialogue is encouraged to solve problems, and decision-making by consensus and collectively.
Cosmic Education, which is part of the Elementary level curriculum, fosters a sense of responsibility and respect for others and the planet. This is achieved through learning about other cultures and understanding that all living beings are connected and that each of our actions has an impact on the world and on other people.
In short, Montessori peace education is integrated into all aspects of learning and the school environment, creating a space where children and young people can develop as conscious, respectful and peaceful people.
For this reason, and in the framework of the International Day of Peace, the INE celebrates and educates about peace, together with our allies from the Rotary Club of San Juan. This year our Volunteer Program has coordinated a wonderful activity to which we would like to invite you.
The Puerto Rican parrot will be part of one of the school art exhibitions. This one was created by students from the SU Pasto School in Aibonito.
Students from María I Dones in Fajardo have also developed their art alluding to peace.
This event will take place on Saturday, September 21 from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm on the ground floor of the San Patricio Plaza shopping center in Guaynabo. At this family event, you can enjoy art exhibits and participation by students from Montessori public schools, workshops, live readings, information tables, and much more.
