Tree of Hope at the Mayagüez Mall

Last February we were part of the Mayagüez Mall Tree of Hope initiative, which encourages people who visit the mall to support the work of a non-profit organization.

Through visuals and informative material, members of our collective and the school communities we serve interacted with people to expand knowledge about the Public Montessori project that we have led for several decades.

Our time at the Mayagüez Mall allowed us inform the people about the work we do in and with the schools of the western area: Prof. Juana Rosario Carrero in Aguada, Ramón E. Betances in Cabo Rojo and Alejandro Tapia y Rivera in Lajas.

INE's services and support impact 815 students and their families in the west of the country. These schools have wonderful programs that connect the Montessori curriculum with practical learning, such as the Educational Center for Coastal and Aquatic Risks (CERCA) at the Lajas school and soon at the Aguada school; and also with Enraizando, an environmental program that provides children and young people with the contact and knowledge of nature necessary to develop their awareness and care for the environment.

As part of this initiative, with each donation people made, their name was written on a red ribbon which was then placed on the Tree of Hope, a large, colorful tree surrounded by water at one of the entrances to the shopping center.

More and more people and companies are supporting us and allowing us to publicize our work with children, youth, and teachers, in favor of public education in Puerto Rico, making the Montessori method accessible to communities. We deeply appreciate the opportunity to connect, inform, and give hope to our Puerto Rico.

We continue working school by school to make a better Puerto Rico possible.
