Montessori public schools offer camps in their community

Three schools from the Montessori Public project managed this summer for their communities to have a summer camp for the first time under the proposal of the Department of Education "Verano Recreativo".

The schools that carried out the camps were the Antonio Paoli School in Vega Alta, Inocencio Cintrón Zayas in Barranquitas and Jaime C. Rodriguez in Yabucoa.

This experience allowed them to care for 70 children in Vega Alta, 90 in Yabucoa and 69 in Barranquitas, children from Early Childhood and Elementary II.

The camp helped reinforce skills in the areas of math, Spanish, English, science, but in a different and fun way. They also took music, astronomy, agronomy, orchards, seedbeds, fine arts, and recycling. This initiative was called "Verano Montessori" because the Montessori philosophy and methodology was the guide for the offerings.

The transformation facilitators of these schools celebrate the teamwork that allowed the students to have experiences that enriched their lives and that they enjoyed to the fullest during the four weeks of camp. They also celebrated that the boys and girls got to go out in excursions to museums and plays they also visited CuentaCuentos de Puerto Rico, Mayagüez and Bayamón's Linear Park.

The three schools came together at the end of the month at Bayamón's Linear Park to celebrate the end of camp. The children and their families enjoyed a number of activities.

The transformation facilitators share that having carried out the camps for the first time allowed the children to be busy and enjoying themselves, and that the teachers shared in a different way with the student. It was also an opportunity to promote the school, offer summer employment and strengthen the integration of the community with the school.
