Her Legacy Lives in Us

Ginny during one of her visits to the INE.

Ginny came to Puerto Rico as part of our beginning-of-the-century effort to bring Montessori teacher training courses to the island.

From day one, Ginny fell in love with the project and dedicated herself to it, until she was no longer able to work, well into her 90s. She was an example of tireless work and dedication, faithful to the principles of justice and access. She never grew weary.

As she often told us, Ginny found in Puerto Rico the realization of Maria Montessori’s dream: to serve all children of a country through an educational philosophy and methodology grounded in deep respect for their nature.

Ginny taught us about the wonder and greatness of childhood.

She was an inspiration and driving force behind the development of Infant & Toddler environments and Children's Houses in public schools across the island. She held a special place in her heart for the Juanita Rivera Alberts School in Vieques, where she helped create the environments for this level alongside extraordinary Montessori guides. Ginny made the Isla Nena her home.

Ginny has moved on to another plane of development (as she used to say in her final days), but she remains with us. She is with us in spirit. She was my teacher. A companion in dreaming big. She lives on in each of the environments she helped build with Sandy, and in every corner of INE that she helped us imagine. She is an essential part of who we are today. Thank you, Ginny!
