Comerio's Family House is inaugurated

Staff and families of the Juana Colón Montessori school, together with Don Juan Alicea Agosto, President and founder of the foundation of the town that bears his name, requested the INE to establish a Family House that would serve to meet the growing need of their community of have access to experiences and services that pay for peace, tranquility, and the health of their families.

The Comerio Family House appears in the middle of the pandemic. In August 2020 the premises were erected and enabled, which then served hundreds of students virtually and remotely. While we defeat the virus, and we are returning, the House opens its doors in person and continues the services already started.

For Vilmaris Castro, Coordinator of the Family House, the experience during this time has been a difficult and wonderful one; Despite the challenges, she is satisfied with having been able to offer quality services to her community. Now that they are present, he described them as a "great joy" to be able to see them and have that human contact that is very important for their work.

Among the services offered by the Family House are: psychological therapies, alternative therapies such as yoga, music therapy and art therapy, recreational activities, support groups and workshops.

Vilmaris expresses that the Family House arrived at the perfect moment, since it was necessary to attend to the mental health of the community in the midst of COVID -19.

Currently, there are Family Homes in the municipalities of Aibonito, Comerío, Guayama, Patilla, Humacao, Juncos, Guaynabo, Toa Baja, San Juan and Vieques.

The first Family House was born in the 90's at the Juan Ponce de León Montessori school, in Juan Domingo, Guaynabo.
