The Anti-Waste Club returns to the Montessori school Segunda Unidad Pasto

Students from Elementary II (4th to 6th garde) from the Montessori public school Segunda Unidad Pasto in Aibonito resume the Anti-Waste Club (CAB) voluntarily after years of inactivity.

While the students read the book, “Cuida tu planeta”, as part of their learning process, the guide Dorivette Figueroa told them about the club that existed 11 years ago at the school, and in which the students voluntarily collected trash to take care of the planet and the school's green areas.

Knowing this story motivated the students to do more for the planet, so much so that they arrived one day with garbage bags full of trash collected at the school and letting the guide know their desire to resume the club she told them about.

Thus, the CAB resumed its mission of promoting environmental awareness in the Montessori public school Segunda Unidad Pasto and the community that surrounds them. They invite everyone not to litter, protecting the planet and their school environment.

With this club, students become spokespersons in their community for the desire to have a healthy school and planet, to make an effort and take the garbage to the trash can and for the damage that garbage does to the planet and to people.

From Monday to Thursday, the nine members of the club, in their free lunch time, collect the garbage they see lying around, and then they meet to classify it.

In addition, they have already oriented all the school students about the club and the importance of not littering to take care of the planet. Their commitment to the club's mission is so palpable that if they identify students who litter at school, they guide them again to reinforce their awareness of caring for the environment.

The guide Dorivette, who accompanies them in this work, is extremely proud of the work they do, their enthusiasm and love with which they do it. “This is Montessori. Montessori is lived,” said the educator to emphasize how a methodology like Montessori invites the child to take action, to be part of the solutions and contribute to their community.

As part of their training and environmental care experiences, students will participate in a coastal cleanup with Scuba Dogs Society, an environmental organization that cultivates education in action.

CAB's vision is to be a model of environmental responsibility in its community by inspiring others to join its cause. They aspire to create an environment where all members of the school and community work together to keep spaces clean and healthy.
