Montessori Education Meeting:a space for professional development and reflection on peace
The first Montessori Education Conference in Puerto Rico is just around the corner. In approximately 32 days, the New School Institute (INE) will host over 900 educators and school staff to provide them with a professional development experience, as well as a space for reflection on education and its role in shaping the society we aspire to.
This event is framed within the theme "Training Citizens for Peace," as the Montessori philosophy and methodology provide the tools for such training and practice through education.
In the face of a Puerto Rico plagued by violence and negative news, the INE continues to believe that education is the solution. Therefore, the invitation to participate in this event is not only open to Montessori educators, but also to teachers, families, educational leaders, and future educators.
The Meeting will offer a number of topics for the professional development of teachers and will provide a wealth of knowledge for families in the midst of their parenting process.
Specifically, on Friday, November 7, certified Montessori teachers will have a review session to strengthen authentic Montessori, while on Saturday, November 8, the session will be open to the public with more than 45 topics to choose from.
Some of the topics that teachers will be able to train in are:
Cognitive Neuroscience and Montessori Education
The Montessori Method for students with ASD
From Burnout to Well-Being: Practical Neuroscience Strategies to Combat Burnout
Beyond the Facts: Strategies for Teaching History
Art as a tool for raising awareness
For families, however, there are a number of relevant topics such as:
Help me do it myself! Home independence for toddlers and walkers.
Screens and Early Childhood: Invisible Risks and Montessori Alternatives
Forming meaningful readers
Problematic Internet Behaviors: Children and Adolescents
In addition to these topics, Vivian Neptune, Dean of the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, will be the keynote speaker and will discuss human rights, children's rights, and education.
There will be opportunities for reflection, such as the Inaugural Lecture, which will be given by Vanesa Mulero, university professor and Montessori educator, who will discuss Montessori as a peace activist. Attendees of this educational conference will also be able to enjoy and learn about peace education, its best practices and transformative action, the relationship between environmental awareness and a culture of peace, and other transformative stories from Puerto Rican communities.
